The piece Give me a place to stand on consists of a vessel within which a fan pointing towards the sail is anchored. According to the common physics textbook example that illustrates Newton’s third law of motion, the fan-vessel system will not move given that the relevant forces cancel each other out. The title of the piece is drawn from the phrase “Give me a place to stand on and I will move the earth“ that is attributed to Archimedes in relation to his studies concerning the properties of levers. The piece points to the tension of attempting to transcend a system from within the system.
The piece is presented in the Eleventh Plateau Festival in Hydra
